The six that matter

If you know last year's miles and gallons, your real mpg gets worked out in one step. Most people guess this wrong.

Gallons you bought last year Required. This is where your true mpg comes from.

Truck payment Enter 0 if it is paid off. Asked once, here in the six, so it can never be counted twice.

Trailer payment Enter 0 if it is paid off, or if you pull someone else's trailer.

How many months are left on the truck payment Optional. When the note ends your fixed cost drops, and the app will tell you by how much.

Bobtail mpg, no trailer at all Most bobtail trucks run 6 to 9. Not the same as an empty trailer.

How much of your driving is empty, in percent Out of every 100 miles you drive, how many are deadhead, earning nothing. An estimate is fine, and it is better to guess high than low.

Fixed costs, for the whole year

What you paid last year, all of it. This is the section nobody has to hand, and the one that decides whether a bad month is survivable.

The truck and trailer payments live up in the six, so they are only ever entered once. Nothing here repeats them.

A big bill does not have to arrive as a surprise. Put the cost here and how long it lasts, and the app charges you a few cents a mile for it now, so the money is already there when it happens. This is the line that decides whether a bad month is survivable.
